Bio: WINTERMUTE are an indie/math/pop 4 piece from Leeds, UK. Dave Hemmings (guitar/vocals), Dan Howard (vocals/guitar), Ben Johnson (drums) and Chris Newbould (bass) formed at University, ... (more) and have been a part of Leeds's exciting underground music scene for the past few years.

In 2007, the band began to gain recognition after significant development in their songwriting and some well chosen gigs which introduced them to a whole new audience. This period saw Wintermute breaking out from merely playing with the local indie fraternity, on to bills with post-rock, prog, post-hardcore and metal bands.

A hugely passionate live show and their ear for actually doing something interesting brought praise from unexpected quarters. Soon people started to take note; they enjoyed gigs with DIY promoters around the city, and were chosen to play the Carling Stage at Leeds Festival after winning the Futuresound competition at the Cockpit. Larger local gigs and out of town trips were soon flowing in, culminating in the band touring to promote their debut single on Children No More.

This year Wintermute have been working closely with established Leeds promoters: Brainwash who now manage them, and On The Bone will be releasing their debut EP in June, as well as a single to coincide with the Oceansize tour. This new material takes their infectious songwriting, and adds aggression, interesting time changes, riffs galore and some viscious fret work. Collectively, the band share a love for the likes of Minus The Bear, At The Drive-In, Fall Of Troy and Smashing Pumpkins alongside a diverse mix of influences; what you can hear of this in Wintermute's music is for the audience to decide. National press such as Drowned In Sound and Rock Sound have now picked up on what the local press like Sandman have been saying for while: ditch your doubts at the door, and expect to be impressed.
